As a global player in the telecommunications industry with more than 100 representative offices worldwide, Huawei's activities have an impact on the societies in which we operate, and we firmly believe in the need to give back to society.
Thus, as a reflection of our commitment, we firmly believe in localizing our global operations. We have set up local sales and service institutions, R&D centers, training centers, technical support centers and production centers. This has not only enhanced our understanding of the local market, but also contributes to the local economy by increasing employment, especially in less developed regions. Currently, local employees account for over 60% of the staff in our local representative offices.
Huawei has a global R&D strategy, and has set up research institutes in Stockholm, Sweden; Bangalore, India; Dallas and the Silicon Valley in the USA; and Moscow in Russia. Our China research institutes are based in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Xi'an, Chengdu, and Wuhan. Our largest overseas R&D center is the one in Bangalore, and currently employs over 1200 Indian software engineers.
We have widely implemented CMM5 and IPD (Integrated Product Development) into our product development, and our R&D institutes in Bangalore, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Shanghai have been awarded CMM-level 5 certification.
We are particularly proud of our technology support center and training center in Nigeria's capital city, Abuja, in which Huawei invested USD 10 million for the two centers' construction and expansion.
The expanded training centre is the first of its kind in Nigeria and can accommodate up to 2000 trainees per year.
Based on the principle of "Invest in Africa, Serve Africa", Huawei has made significant contributions towards the development of the African telecoms industry ever since it entered the African market by actively cooperating with local partners, and making a conscious effort to foster local telecoms talent.
